Radiata Pine Thermowood is a great alternative to both Cedar and Redwood Thermowood, being a clearer and thermally modified softwood material originating from New Zealand, that lasts for years, with virtually no knots (if any). The dark brown colour of timber that eventually fades to a grey/charcoal colour, which gives it a great contemporary look that is an asset to any project's aesthetic. You can prolong its original dark brown colour using a UV Oil to slow down the weathering process.

These boards are fixed together by inserting the tongue into the groove. The chamfering at the top and the bottom of the boards accentuates the individual boards by creating a subtle 'V' shadow line along the joints. Dependent on your style, they can also be fitted either horizontally or vertically; should you choose to fit them horizontally, it is recommended that the boards are installed with the tongue uppermost, this is to allow any moisture to fall away from the tongue.

Perfect for internal and external use alike, the cladding is great for use within saunas, houses and out buildings.

Even though no additional treatment is required to Radiata Pine Thermowood, as it is a modified wood that has been treated by heat in a kiln in high temperatures, it can be easily stained just like a normal planed softwood. This process dries out the core of the wood, getting rid of any moisture and resin within the board and brings the moisture content to around 7-10% with enhanced physical properties, making it much more stable than any other softwood. The process also means it has high resistance to decay and fungal attacks. As the drying process involves heat and water, this means that the cladding is chemical free and therefore a eco-friendly option to use compared to some of the other materials on the market. You can find our external stains and oils here.

Ready to fix and available in two options - First Grade:

First Grade is sorted to include only the clearest (most knot free) boards with the straightest grain possible. A perfect choice for all modern and contemporary applications.

For Character Grade equivalent, please take a look at our Redwood Thermowood Cladding option.

End-matching (Tongue and Groove) will allow you to place joints where they fall, instead of on the stud, allowing you to finish the job more quickly without sacrificing on quality and helps minimise wastage.

We offer the following section sizes:

  • 142mm x 20mm - The overall width is 142mm, with the visible face measuring 132mm

Our Thermowood cladding comes in random lengths between 1200mm and 3600mm, and is priced per square meter. Set lengths are available for extra:

  • Set lengths up to 3500mm - £4.00 extra per square metre exc VAT
  • Set lengths above 3500mm - £8.00 extra per square metre exc VAT

This can be done by adding the 'Set lengths (Cladding)' product to your basket (1 quantity = 1 square meter of cladding). You will need the same amount of cladding and set lengths in your basket to get the set lengths that you need so make sure to double check you have added the correct quantity.

The visible face size is 10mm less to account for the joint.

If your boards are exposed to varying weather conditions before fitting, they are likely to cup, warp and split; the ideal time to fit cladding to keep this to a minimum is between the months of October and April and within 7 to 14 days of delivery.

Please be aware that sizes are subject to change in response to changes in moisture levels. Cladding will be kiln-dried to approximately an 7-10% moisture content prior to machining, but may vary between production and installation on site. Cladding will be dispatched at given sizes, but a margin of error should be used when producing cladding layout drawings for expansion and contraction in the timber.

Please contact our Sales Team on 01536 267107 should you have any issues.

Still unsure? We offer up to two samples of our cladding boards for a £5 inc VAT postage charge here. Should you wish to then purchase cladding boards that are the same product as your samples, we will reimburse you the £5 postage charge upon ordering!*
