Our Character Grade Air Dried Oak V Tongue and Groove Cladding is perfect should you require that traditional 'T&G' look to your cladding project, with the elegantly rustic finish that Character Grade Oak offers. Perfect boards for gate manufacture.

Just like the classic T&G profile, these boards are fixed together by inserting the tongue into the groove. The chamfering at the top and the bottom of the boards accentuates the individual boards by creating a subtle 'V' shadow line along the joints. What makes this profile different from the Tongue and Groove profile is that these boards are reversible so either face can be used. Dependent on your style, they can also be fitted either horizontally or vertically; should you choose to fit them horizontally, it is recommended that the boards are installed with the tongue uppermost, this is to allow any moisture to fall away from the tongue.

Freshly Sawn on site, these boards contain varying in size sound knots, sometimes some colour variation, fissures and areas of tight/straight perfectly grained oak. As the oak acclimatises to the changing temperatures, your boards will also expand and contract. All of these natural characteristics are what gives our Character Grade Oak Cladding its classically natural rustic charm, making it one of our most popular cladding species.

Your boards will be supplied untreated. No treatments are required, however if you wish to preserve the supplied colour for that little while longer or use a weather resistant sealant, please take a look at our Treatex range. Should you wish to leave it to age gracefully, it will eventually turn to a beautiful silvery grey colour as the suns rays do their work.

Ready to fix and available in two options - First and Character Grade:

  • First Grade is sorted to include only the clearest (most knot free) boards with the straightest grain possible. A perfect choice for all modern and contemporary applications.
  • Character Grade will have a mixture of all top four grades, 1 through to 4 - some clear of knots and some straight grain, others with knots and some sloping grain. A perfect choice for all traditional/rustic applications, it gives a less uniformed look, without compromising its excellent durability properties.

End-Matching (Tongue and Groove) will allow you to place joints where they fall, instead of on the stud, allowing you to finish the job more quickly without sacrificing on quality and helps minimise wastage.

We offer the following section sizes:

  • 115mm x 24mm - The overall width is 115mm, with the visible face measuring 110mm
  • 142mm x 24mm - The overall width is 142mm, with the visible face measuring 137mm

The face size is less 5mm to account for the tongue joint.

If your boards are exposed to varying weather conditions before fitting, they are likely to cup, warp and split; the ideal time to fit cladding to keep this to a minimum is between the months of October and April and within 7 to 14 days of delivery.

Our Character Grade V Tongue and Groove External Cladding is priced per square metre and comes in random lengths between 1200mm and 3600mm unless otherwise specified for an additional charge:

  • Set lengths up to 3500mm - £4.00 extra per square metre exc VAT
  • Set lengths above 3500mm - £8.00 extra per square metre exc VAT

This can be done by adding the 'Set lengths (Cladding)' product to your basket (1 quantity = 1 square meter of cladding). You will need the same amount of cladding and set lengths in your basket to get the set lengths that you need so make sure to double check you have added the correct quantity.

Please contact our Sales Team on 01536 267 107 should you have any issues.

Still unsure? We offer up to two samples of our cladding boards for a £5 inc VAT postage charge. Should you wish to then purchase cladding boards that are the same product as your samples, we will reimburse you the £5 postage charge upon ordering!*
