These beautiful naturally long lasting New Untreated European Oak Sleepers are cut straight from the tree and are suitable for use in a vast array of landscaping applications. Being the most versatile of all of our sleepers, they can be used to create patios, raised beds, planters and outdoor furniture.

Being cut from sleeper grade material, your sleepers will primarily have straight edges, however there may be some slight wane to one or two edges, as well as some knots, bark and surface checks, but essentially they are a very affordable characterful piece of oak timber ideal for a multitude of uses.

Any splits, knots, heart rot, missing edges or insect damage are not subject to a refund or replacement.

Being a natural living product, you may also experience some colour variation to the image, and when in place some further natural movement which may cause splits, warping and some sap as the timber adjusts to the changing seasons. These characteristics are to be expected and will give a beautiful natural distinctive appearance.

Please remember that oak sleeper dimensions can vary slightly due to their natural characteristics. We offer planed all round and planed & chamfered finish options in the dropdown that will help regularise the overall size and will reduce the dimensions by approximately 10mm (+/- 2mm). For example, a 200mm x 100mm section size will become 190mm x 90mm.

Looking for a different length from what we offer? Let us take on the additional work for you with our cross-cutting service.

As probably the most complete railway and landscaping sleeper supplier in the Country,  UK Timber Ltd have installed every machine required to adapt and finish sleepers to the customers individual requirements.

In the finish dropdown in this listing you have the following options:

  • Sawn- Sawn sleepers are the standard for use in most landscaping projects, they have a sawn finish with primarily straight edges yet will have that intrinsic roughness that all sawn timber materials share.
  • Planed
  • Planed and Chamfered

These sleepers are planed all round with high speed large capacity planing machines.

Oak sleepers will lose approximately 10mm on all dimensions eg a 200x100mm sleeper will become 190x90mm in order to take as many defects out during the planing process as possible and to straighten the material as much as possible within the constraints of this low grade timber.

The planed sleepers will have a lovely smooth finish but may have some or all of the standard oak sleeper anomalies such as dead knots, splits, small amounts of wane to their edges and potential for some historic insect damage. They are still absolutely suitable for all landscaping requirements where a smooth, almost splinter free aesthetic is required. Sleepers with this finish can also be treated with one of our Treatex products to retain and enhance the natural beauty of the grain and character that is unearthed by the planed surface. If left untreated they will turn grey over time.

Planed and Chamfered

This finish is the same as the planed finish but with the additional benefit of having a 2 to 3mm chamfer or bevel taken off all four edges. It is a final touch that can suit many contemporary tastes.
