Untreated Economy Turkey Oak Landscaping Sleepers
MODEL ETOLS
New Untreated Economy Turkey Oak Landscaping Sleepers are great for creating water features, retaining walls amongst other landscaping uses. Cut straight from the tree and left untreated, these sleepers are versatile in looks and long lasting.
Quercus Cerris (the latin name for Turkey Oak) is a nice alternative to the slower grown Quercus Robur (European Oak) that is more commonly used.
It should really only be used for landscaping purposes and not dried for internal use as it will split and deteriorate rapidly. Outside it is equally as durable as European Oak.
For European Oak Sleepers, please browse here.
New Untreated Economy Turkey Oak Landscaping Sleepers are a versatile and durable landscaping product. Equally durable as New European Oak Sleepers, when used for landscaping projects as well as contact with water as they are predominantly used in boat production. Its dense grain structure and high tannin content provides natural resistance to insect infestation, rot and any decay, protecting it from weather elements throughout its lifespan.
Turkey Oak comes in a range of colours, from a pale yellow-brown to a deep-golden brown, with prominent grain patters and alternating light and dark lines throughout, creating a beautiful characterful look that is an asset to any landscaping project. These sleepers are a natural product so the dimensions of the sleepers are nominal, meaning their section size (width x depth) may vary slightly due to the possible waney edges, knots, barks and surface checks throughout the material. Further natural movement of the sleepers may lead to some splits, warping and sap as the timber adjusts to the changing season, these are to be expected and add further to the character of the sleepers.
Any splits, knots, missing edges or insect damage are not subject to refund or replacement.
We offer planed all round and planed all round & bevelled options for these sleepers, these would mean an up to 10mm (-/+2mm) reduction in the section sizes. For example, 200mm x 100mm section size will become 190mm x 90mm.

In the finish dropdown in this listing you have the following options:
- Sawn
- Planed All Round
- Planed and Bevelled
Sawn sleepers are the standard for use in most landscaping projects, they have a sawn finish with primarily straight edges yet will have that intrinsic roughness that all sawn timber materials share.
Planed All Round sleepers will have a lovely smooth finish but will still contain some or all of the standard sleeper anomalies such as dead knots, splits, small amounts of wane to their edges and potential for some historic insect damage. Still suitable for landscaping purposes, especially those where a splinter free aesthetic is required. Sleepers with this finish can also be treated with Treatex products to retain and enhance the natural beauty of the grain and character that is unearthed by the planed surface. If left untreated, these sleepers will turn grey over time.
Planed and Bevelled sleepers will have the same smooth finish as the planed all round sleepers but with the addition of the edges having a 2-3mm chamfer/bevel taken off to create a more contemporary aesthetic, as well as being safer for use around children and pets alike.
